Guests can see the playful antics of the new capybara family from June 8 – July 7
CLEARWATER, FL (May 30, 2024) – Starting June 8, Clearwater Marine Aquarium will host three, 8-week-old capybaras in a new Capybara Chillout event, in partnership with Amazing Animals, Inc. Join us in welcoming these adorable newbies to their habitat between June 8 and July 7, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, while experiencing their friendly personalities and learning about their natural behaviors.
Originally from Central and South America, capybaras are found in marshy areas, where they can swim and eat plenty of vegetation. These highly social mammals are primarily threatened by human actions like deforestation, habitat destruction and illegal poaching. The presence of capybaras at CMA will enable guests to interact with and learn about these unique animals as part of CMA’s educational outreach efforts and conservation initiatives.
The addition of Capybara Chillout will offer visitors a new and exciting attraction, diversifying their experience at CMA. Throughout the day, guests can see these loveable creatures as they roam and frolic in their habitat, providing visitors with a delightful opportunity to observe and interact with capybaras, while fostering a deeper connection. Access to the Capybara Chillout event is included with regular admission to CMA.
In addition, small groups of up to 12 individuals can participate in a hands-on session with capybaras at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 and 4 p.m. daily for an additional fee of $59.95 per person. Advance reservations are recommended due to limited availability. These encounters will give guests the opportunity to interact with the capybaras under our staff’s guidance, offering an amusing and memorable experience.
