Xiphosura

Juvenile, Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas)
Release Date
February 22, 2016

Xiphosura is a juvenile green sea turtle, who came to the aquarium on May 12th,2015 from Three Rooker Island. She was caught in a gill net by the Coastal Marine Education and Research Academy. Upon her arrival it was found that the tip of her left front flipper was bleeding and she also was suffering from the fibropapilloma virus. She came in weighing 9 kg and now weights 14.63 kgs! After being sent for a CT scan, there were no internal tumors seen by our veterinarians. For the first few weeks in rehab, Xiphosura was receiving SQ fluids and anitbiotics. A few weeks later she was eating pretty regularly and up to a full diet. After consistently eating for a few weeks, she was discontinued on all critical treatments!

Xiphosura had her first pap removal surgery on December 1st, 2015 to remove her tumors. She had a successful surgery and recovery and is now cleared for release! Xiphosura was released at Clearwater Beach.

Please wish her well on her future adventures in the big blue!
