Their Story

Matcha, Oolong, Chai, Americano, Kombucha, and Macchiato are all transfers that were a part of a large cold-stun event that happened in the Florida panhandle at the end of January to early February. There were hundreds of sea turtles that stranded in short period of time. These 6 were transferred from GSML to CMA due to space and/or fishing line ingestion to finish out the remainder of their rehab. Chai and Kombucha both had ingested fishing line, while Americano had ingested rope.

Naming theme: Coffee and Teas

Treatment Updates

2.9.26

All these patients are progressing well in rehab and in water full time. Majority are on daily injectable antibiotics and fluid therapy. Over the next we week will start to perform more diagnostics (CT scans for our FP turtles)

2.17.26

Matcha was the most critical transfer and had severe skin lesions as a result of cold-stunning. They are healing well and have shown much improvement over the last week!

2.20.26

Chai had a colonscopy performed. Americano and Kombucha both had endoscopies completed to check for signs of issues regarding fishing line ingestions. All are doing well, and we are continue to monitor appetite and defecations for any complications.

2.26.26

Americano defecated a portion of their ingested rope! This is huge progress, and we will continue to monitor.

3.5.26

– All patients had recheck exams in the last week. All are progressing well. Several we are getting ready for pap removal surgery (Macchiato and Oolong).

All marine turtle footage taken in Florida was obtained with the approval of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) under conditions not harmful to marine turtles. Footage was acquired while conducting authorized conservation activities pursuant to FWC MTP-19-172.
