Tega’s Story
Tega was rescued emaciated with a watercraft injury in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida on August 11, 2021. She was 329 centimeters long and weighed 1327 pounds at the time of her rescue. She was transported to Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens for care. She was released on January 13, 2022, at Port Everglades in Broward County. She was 330 centimeters long and weighed 1734 pounds. She will be monitored by Clearwater Marine Aquarium Research Institute as part of the Unusual Mortality Event (UME) study.
All manatee work was conducted under USFWS Research Permit # MA37808A-2.
