Sea Turtle Hospital Patient – Ruffles

Ruffles is a juvenile green sea turtle who was found floating near Cocoa Beach in Brevard county on March 9. Due to space limitations, Ruffles was transferred to CMA on March 10 to continue out the remainder of their rehabilitation. Ruffles has a relatively good body condition and a moderate load of fibropapilloma tumors present. Ruffles initial treatment plan consists of vitamins and fluids.

Manatee Tracking – Pete

A ten-foot adult male manatee, Pete, was tagged on April 3, 2023 in Cumberland, GA through the collaborative effort between Clearwater Marine Aquarium Research Institute (CMARI), Georgia Aquarium (GAQ), Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GDNR) and other partners. Pete received a full health assessment checkup by GAQ veterinarian staff and was outfitted with a GPS satellite tag to closely monitor his travels as part of our manatee Northern Atlantic Coast Manatee Movement study.

Jade is a juvenile green sea turtle who was found stranded on Sand Key on Feb.13. Jade was lethargic but has relatively good body condition at intake examination. Jade experienced acute hypothermia due to our local cold weather. Jade has no other external abnormalities. Jade’s initial treatment plan consists of vitamins and fluids.

Clearwater Marine Aquarium Launches “Echoes of the Ocean”- Exciting New Educational Speaker Series

Clearwater Marine Aquarium will launch an all new series, “Echoes of the Ocean: A Marine Life Speaker Series,” with its first presentation, “The Journey of the Rice’s Whale,” on March 7 from 5 – 8 p.m. at CMA. The series will reflect national research as well as research specific to CMA on marine life, while including its ongoing mission of rescue, rehabilitation and release.

This week, Clearwater Marine Aquarium released 11 cold-stunned Kemp’s ridley sea turtles back into the Atlantic Ocean near the Cape Canaveral area, after they were rehabilitated for two months at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.
