Quinn goes home after quick rehabilitation at Clearwater Marine Aquarium.
Clearwater Marine Aquarium released Quinn, an endangered sub-adult green sea turtle, on Tuesday, April 30 at Fred Howard Park in Tarpon Springs, FL.
The sea turtle was rescued on Sunday, April 21 after being reported floating offshore near Homosassa in Citrus County. Quinn weighed in at one-hundred pounds upon arrival to CMA. The large sub-adult green turtle was also just 17 centimeters short of being classified as a full adult sea turtle.
Radiographs confirmed that air in Quinn’s GI tract was causing the buoyancy issue. After spending some time in CMA’s rehabilitation center, the extra air is now gone and Quinn is able to comfortably rest and eat in deeper water.
Our veterinarian and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) cleared the sea turtle for release. CMA staff and volunteers released Quinn back home into the ocean on Tuesday.
All marine turtle footage taken in Florida was obtained with the approval of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) under conditions not harmful to marine turtles. Footage was acquired while conducting authorized conservation activities pursuant to FWC MTP-19-172.
