Jaw’s Story

Jaws is a juvenile green sea turtle who was found washed ashore in St. Johns county on Aug.10. Jaws was transferred to CMA from Whitney Lab on Aug. 27 due to space limitations they were experiencing with recent strandings. CMA will continue out the remainder of their rehabilitation. Our goal is to get Jaws ready for fibropapilloma tumor removal surgery!

INTERESTING FACT: Naming theme: Named by Whitney Lab (Movie Titles)

Treatment Updates

8.29.24

Due to Jaws having undergone initial rehabilitation for two weeks at Whitney Lab prior to arrival at CMA, they are already stable and doing well in our care! They are in deep water all day and overnight, and are eating well!

9.5.24

Jaws is continuing to do well. Hopefully will be ready to surgery soon.

9.28.24

Due to the extensive damage from Hurricane Helene to our life support systems, all our sea turtle patients were transferred to Coastal Stewards to continue out their rehabilitation until our pools are fixed.

11.18.24

Jaws will stay at Coastal Stewards to continue out the remainder of their rehabilitation as they are from the east coast of Florida.

All marine turtle footage taken in Florida was obtained with the approval of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) under conditions not harmful to marine turtles. Footage was acquired while conducting authorized conservation activities pursuant to FWC MTP-23/24-172.
