Queen’s Story

Queens is a juvenile, green sea turtle who was found stranded in a ditch near the Steinhatchee River in Dixie county on Dec. 4. This area experienced extreme flooding during Hurricane Helene, and now that the waters have receded, many marine animals are now trapped in this area. Queens is in good body condition and has a minor case of fibropapilloma. We are hopeful for a quick turnaround!

The area that Queens was found in was likely brackish water. We will be monitoring Queen’s electrolytes over the next few days due to this exposure and giving appropriate fluid therapy. Queens was given a small amount of swim time and did well!

Queens went for a recheck CT. No obvious concerns seen! They’re blood work has improved, and they are able to be in deep water all day and overnight.
