Raphael’s Story

Raphael is a juvenile green sea turtle who was found floating near New Smyrna Beach in Volusia County on March 23. He was found with a small amount of epibiota on the carapace. Raphael, along with 5 other turtles, was transferred to Clearwater Marine Aquarium from Volusia County Marine Science Center on April 1 because of limited space. Raphael is improving and doing well in our care!

Transferred to CMA from Volusia County Marine Science Center. Bloodwork sent out to lab.

Doing well! Placing Raphael in his dry dock once a day in the sun to absorb more vitamin D so his shell will heal.

Released on the east coast by FWC!


All marine turtle footage taken in Florida was obtained with the approval of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) under conditions not harmful to marine turtles. Footage was acquired while conducting authorized conservation activities pursuant to FWC MTP-18-172.
