Sea Turtle Hospital Patient – Ruby

Ruby’s Story

Ruby is a juvenile green sea turtle who found washed ashore on March 24 in Volusia county. Due to space limitations, Ruby was transferred to CMA from Volusia County Marine Science Center to continue out the remainder of their rehabilitation.

Treatment Updates

3.28.24

Ruby’s first swim test showed floating behaviors due to this we placed them in a shallow pool. We will gradually increase their swim time as they improve.

3.29.24

Continuing to give fluids as needed. Starting to offer food and monitor their appetite.

4.3.24

Ruby went for a CT scan. Continuing to eat well.

Over the last several days, Ruby is able to be in deep water all day and overnight. They are resting on the bottom!

Ruby is continuing to eat well.

Ruby is doing well, however, they were moved to paps quarantine due to a small growth observed on the right eyelid.

Ruby has received a clean bill of health from our staff veterinarian!

Ruby was released at Ormond Beach in Volusia county!


All marine turtle footage taken in Florida was obtained with the approval of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) under conditions not harmful to marine turtles. Footage was acquired while conducting authorized conservation activities pursuant to FWC MTP-23/24-172.
