Guests can enjoy a book signing and shop sea turtle-themed fashion by Emerson and Friends
Clearwater, Florida. (July 22, 2025) — Clearwater Marine Aquarium invites guests to a Sea Turtle Shellebration on July 24, a family-friendly event spotlighting the launch of a children’s book written about one of CMA’s resident sea turtles, Stubby. The event will feature longtime CMA volunteer and author, Madison DiLoren, and the debut of a sea turtle-inspired clothing line from local brand Emerson and Friends.
The Shellebration will feature a book signing by DiLoren. Her debut picture book, A Surprise for Stubby, was inspired by her years working closely with CMA’s rescue animals and sharing their stories with young guests. The story centers on Stubby’s journey and her joyful, resilient spirit, helping children understand the importance of empathy, conservation and the power of adapting to life’s challenges.
Stubby is a rescued green sea turtle whose resilience and friendly personality have made her a beloved CMA ambassador for sea turtle conservation. Injured by monofilament fishing line entanglement and missing both front flippers, Stubby was brought to CMA on May 9, 2001. Despite her injuries and inability to dive, Stubby has adapted in remarkable ways and is known for blowing bubbles, greeting guests with enthusiasm, and enjoying tactile interaction from staff and volunteers.
“The story shows that it’s okay to not be okay. And that love – whether for animals, the ocean, or each other – can heal everything,” DiLoren said. “I hope one child reads this and feels inspired to work in marine science, or to help protect sea turtles. Then I’ll have done my job.”
Joining the event is local clothing brand Emerson and Friends, which will debut a new sea turtle-themed clothing collection for children and families. The boutique brand, known for its whimsical designs and coastal flair, will host an event activation onsite, where guests can shop the exclusive line, participate in giveaways to earn prizes and learn more about the collection.
In addition to the book signing and brand pop-up, guests can enjoy educational stations about sea turtle conservation and a chance to see Stubby and other resident sea turtles.
All event activities are included with general admission.
