Sea Turtle Hospital Patient – Utica

Utica is a juvenile, green sea turtle who was found stranded in a ditch near the Steinhatchee River in Dixie county on Dec. 29. This area experienced extreme flooding during Hurricane Helene, and now that the waters have receded, many marine animals are now trapped in this area. Utica is in good body condition and has a minor case of fibropapilloma. We are hopeful for a quick turnaround!

This area experienced extreme flooding during Hurricane Helene, and now that the waters have receded, many marine animals are now trapped in this area. Tolland is otherwise in good body condition. We are hopeful for a quick turnaround!

Jacksonville (or “Jax”) is a juvenile, green sea turtle who was found entangled in Volusia county on Aug. 24. Jacksonville was transferred to CMA from Volusia Marine Science Center on Aug. 27 to space limitations they were experiencing with recent strandings. CMA will continue out the remainder of their rehabilitation.

Jaws was transferred to CMA from Whitney Lab on Aug. 27 due to space limitations they were experiencing with recent strandings. CMA will continue out the remainder of their rehabilitation. Our goal is to get Jaws ready for fibropapilloma tumor removal surgery!

Sea Turtle Hospital Patient – Guayana

Guayana is a juvenile, sea turtle, who was found floating near Crystal River with injury to their carapace (shell) and head. Guayana has a good body condition and minor fibropapilloma tumors present. They were active and alert at the intake examination. Over the next few days, we will be performing diagnostics to assess the extent of their injuries internally and monitoring their behaviors.

Sea Turtle Hospital Patient – Franklin

Franklin is a juvenile, green sea turtle who was found entangled in fishing line near New Port Richey on August 4. The entanglement thankfully did not cause any injuries as it was mainly wrapped around their fibropapilloma tumors. Franklin has a moderate amount of fibropapilloma tumors present that will be addressed with our CO2 laser once they are healthy for surgery.

Manatee Rehabilitation Patient – Yeti

Updated February 21, 2025 Posted July 30, 2024

Yeti was rescued for cold stress in Kings Bay, Citrus County, Florida on February 15,2024. He was 205 centimeters long and weighed 365 pounds at the time of his rescue. Yeti was transported to ZooTampa for care and transferred to Clearwater Marine Aquarium for continued rehabilitation. He is currently 216 cm long and weighs 495 lbs.
