On Friday, December 17, Clearwater Marine Aquarium welcomed 150 guests with Wheelchairs 4 Kids. Families enjoyed a marine-themed holiday party, complete with cookies, juice, Santa, and dolphins! Families from around the state came to CMA to spend time together as a family. Some families have not had much chance to get out amidst the pandemic. Between hospital visits and therapy appointments, having the ability to take a vacation is challenging. Wheelchairs 4 Kids is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children with physical disabilities by providing wheelchairs, home and vehicle modifications, and other assistive equipment at no charge to families.
Volunteer and Wheelchairs 4 Kids Board Member Dave Wright states, “One of the special things about this event is seeing the family as a whole enjoying themselves. Siblings often feel left out, and this event allows the entire family to get a chance to experience the magic of CMA during the holidays together.”
Guests were greeted by CMA’s very own rescued resident dolphins Hope and PJ, providing some unforgettable moments and great memories. Santa and Mrs. Claus made an appearance, sending each family home with a bag of gifts. The CMA Dive Team brought a festive and unique photo opportunity at the main underwater window. On Saturday, many families came back to have a tasty Brunch with Santa as well. This is the 10th annual Wheelchairs 4 Kids event hosted at CMA.
