Clearwater Marine Aquarium released Rye at Fred Howard Park on October 11, 2023.
Rye
On October 11, Clearwater Marine Aquarium returned a Kemp’s ridley sea turtle to its home after a successful rehabilitation. Rye was found on September 22 in the Spring Hill area and was accidentally caught by a fisherman and ingested a large fish hook.
After initial treatments of fluids/vitamins paired with a healthy diet, after the hook removal, Rye showed normal behavior in water and has received a clean bill of health from our staff veterinarian.
Rye was cleared for release by both CMA veterinarian and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). It was released off of Fred Howard Park.
All marine turtle footage taken in Florida was obtained with the approval of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) under conditions not harmful to marine turtles. Footage was acquired while conducting authorized conservation activities pursuant to FWC MTP-23/24-172A.
