Exam Findings
Lethargic but responsive. Covered in a heavy amount of barnacles. There is an injury to the lower part of the carapace.
Initial Treatment
Fluids, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medication, and vitamins.

Marge’s Story

Marge is a juvenile, green sea turtle who was found washed ashore on Cocoa Beach in Brevard County on March 14. Brevard Zoo was limited on space, therefore, Marge and Linus were transferred to CMA for further care on March 15. Marge was covered in a heavy amount of barnacles at stranding. She has minor fibropapilloma tumors and an injury to her carapace of unknown cause. Her initial treatment consists of fluids, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medication, and vitamins.

Bloodwork sent to the lab.

3.20.19

Slowly increasing swim time. Ate a small amount of a sample diet offered!

3.21.19

Went for a CT Scan, no internal pap tumors. Continuing to do glucose checks twice a day and fluids if needed.

Started on diet.

3.24.19

Did well in deep water swim for the first time. Able to rest on the bottom!

Eating well, diet was increased!

4.4.19

Still continuing to improve and eating well. Started on oral antibiotics.


All marine turtle footage taken in Florida was obtained with the approval of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) under conditions not harmful to marine turtles. Footage was acquired while conducting authorized conservation activities pursuant to FWC MTP-19-172.
