Loggerhead Released on East Coast of Florida After Monofilament Entanglement
Ricotta is a sub-adult loggerhead sea turtle who came in during our cheese naming theme. She was transferred to CMA on April 25 from the east coast of Florida. Upon examination, it was discovered that Ricotta had monofilament line wrapped around her front flipper. The monofilament (fishing) line was removed, and she was given medications and vitamins during her rehabilitation.
After some rest and a short period of time in rehab, she was cleared for release! Since she was found on the east coast of Florida, she was then released back into the Atlantic Ocean on May 10.
All marine turtle footage taken in Florida was obtained with the approval of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) under conditions not harmful to marine turtles. Footage was acquired while conducting authorized conservation activities pursuant to FWC MTP-18-172.
