On the evening of May 6, 2017, a fisherman accidentally caught a small, juvenile Kemp’s ridley (named Oat Bran) at Pier 60. He had been using squid as bait which attracted Oat Bran to bite and swallow the hook.

Special K was brought into Clearwateer Marine Aquarium on May 19, 2017. She had been found offshore of the Dunedin Causeway in Pinellas County, floating with some epibiota (barnacles and algae) on her carapace, but also with numerous fibropapilloma tumors on all of her flippers.
