Harry, a Sea Urchin Found With Plastic Hair Clip Returned to the Wild After Marine Debris Campaign Announced

Harry, the sea urchin was found with a very unusual accessory. Clearwater Marine Aquarium summer camp students discovered the urchin with a plastic hair clip attached to its tube feet while snorkeling in Clearwater Bay. His story shows how plastic and marine debris are becoming more common and a growing problem in our oceans.

Do you remember Babyface? She was a dolphin that Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) observed in 2015 with deep propeller cuts on the peduncle near her tail. Babyface was recently spotted once again and this time with a calf!

Clearwater Marine Aquarium had over 20 dive team members voluntarily travel to the Florida Keys to “Dive for the Ocean.” These volunteers joined together with Coral Restoration Foundation, the largest coral reef restoration organization in the world, along with an army of ocean-lovers to plant coral.

Bowser was found floating and swimming sideways around St. John’s Sound, between Honeymoon Island State Park and Fred Howard Park on June 13, 2018. This was most likely due to gastrointestinal gas.
