Two Critically Endangered Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtles, Donkey Kong and Mario Kart, Released

Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) rescued, rehabilitated and released two Kemp’s ridley sea turtles. They are the rarest and most critically endangered species of sea turtles. Donkey Kong and Mario Kart are both juvenile sea turtles and were released on Thurs., Aug. 9 at Honeymoon Island State Park.

On July 24, 2018, a good samaritan found Kerplunk, a juvenile green sea turtle, floating behind their house.

Hungry Hippo is a green sea turtle who was found on July 8, 2018, floating near the southwest side of the Howard Franklin Bridge.

Sea Turtle Hospital Patient – Mario Kart

Mario Kart is a juvenile Kemp’s ridley who was rescued on July 29, 2018. Mario Kart was hooked by a fisherman and the hook got caught in his right front flipper. The fisherman brought the turtle to the pier at the Seminole Boat Ramp where it was picked up and taken to Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

Sea Turtle Hospital Patient – Jenga

On July 15, 2018, Jenga was found floating in Honeymoon Island State Park and was brought to a ranger station before being taken to CMA.
