820 Pounds of Trash Collected at Coastal Cleanup on Memorial Causeway

Over 60 volunteers came to help clean up the coastal area around the causeway and collected an impressive 820 pounds of trash altogether.

Sea Turtle Grant for ATV Beach Patrol

Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) was fortunate to be funded in whole by a grant awarded from the Sea Turtle Grants Program in order to purchase an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) for beach patrols. This vehicle will allow better access to beaches for surveying and help increase our rescue team response time.

Double Sea Turtle Release at Honeymoon Island – Zo and Freesia

Two sea turtles, Zo, a juvenile green, and Freesia, a loggerhead, were released on Oct. 10, 2017, at Honeymoon Island State Park after fibropapilloma treatment and rehabilitation at CMA.

On Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) rescue personnel assisted with the rescue of an entangled female manatee in Oldsmar, Florida.

Loggerhead Sea Turtle Release at Clearwater Beach – Toot

Now weighing 168 pounds, Toot was cleared for release and ready to return home. The loggerhead sea turtle, a threatened species, was released at Clearwater Beach on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 11 am.

Rescue Mission – Weeki Wachee Manatee Relocation

The manatee was entrapped within an enclosed creek in Weeki Wachee, Florida. The animal likely was able to swim into the creek with the increased tides during Hurricane Irma
